kinder friends on an outdoor walk
—
“don’t walk in front of me; i may not follow.
don’t walk behind me; i may not lead.
just walk beside me and be my friend.”
-albert camus
yes
i made another attempt
at keeping the brownies
in the pan
for more than
half an hour.
this time
as i was
tapping off
the
extra
powdered sugar
on top
almost all
of
the perfect batch
followed the sugar
right
into the trash
so
i brought what was left to the party
and
had to call on
my wheel of cheese
for backup.

“it’s the mishaps that make it fun, and brings you the surprise.”
-anna wintour
it amazing to watch
as the lightbulb goes on
and
the transformation begins
when
those who have long names
quickly learn
to adopt
a shorter nickname
that they suddenly really love
(but only when written down)
once they have to
go through the process
of writing it all out.
—
sebastian becomes ‘seb’
elizabeth becomes ‘liz’
anniston becomes ‘ana’
christian becomes ‘chris’
and then
there is always
the one
who gets caught up in the spirit of things
and
jumps on
the shortcut bandwagon
just because
like when
kim becomes ‘km’.
—
“working hard and working smart
sometimes can be two different things.”
-byron dorgan
in my little front yard
mama and papa rabbit
stand guard
ever watchful
waiting for babies
to hop out of the nest
and
head out into the world
all on their own
excited
full of curiosity
and
fresh ideas.
—
“ideas are like rabbits.
you get a couple and learn how to handle them,
and pretty soon you have a dozen.
– john steinbeck
