billion.

Standard

when the mega millions jackpot

hit 1 billion dollars tonight

i decided to take my chances

shell out 2 dollars

buy a lucky ticket

and imagine for at least 12 hours

what i would do with my billion

not a bad price for half a day of creative fun.

the winning ticket?

what would you do with a billion dollars if you won?

‘a billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you’re talking about real money.’

in line.

Standard

sweet kinder spends her free choice time playing with the doll house.

when i stop over for a visit and ask why all the people are facing one way

she tells me they are waiting in line for the one bathroom.

(if you look closely, all the way to the right,

you’ll see the one toilet with someone sitting on it,

as well as a chef serving food out of a window,

and more people and animals scattered around downstairs)

what an amazing real world scenario.

how can i not love every single day of my job?

‘waiting in line is a great opportunity to meet people, daydream, or play.’

superpowers.

Standard

the grandies offered me a chance

to choose my superpower –

flight, strength, invisibility, speed, or shape shift?

i chose invisibilty

got inside of the machine

they powered it up

when i came out

they confirmed that i was now invisible.

except for my feet

which did not fit in the box.

i can live with that.

ghosts.

Standard

littles

playing, creeping, tiptoeing

ghosts in the graveyard

scaring themselves to death

screaming, spooky, squealing, shrieking

so much fun.

“while it’s cool to think ghosts exist, i don’t want to see one.”

where hobbies, hijinks, and capers go bad = my childhood #4

Standard
one day
when i was little
sitting in my garage
with my sisters and friend
just watching the little spiders in the corner
as we hung out, talking and wondering
how we could make some money
we came up with a brilliant plan
and decided that it would be a great idea
to start a ‘spider farm’
where we would breed spiders in my garage
and sell them to all of the people in our neighborhood
overhead would be low
we just had to find two spiders
get them to meet each other
and have babies
we never really considered the logistics
or that we knew nothing about spiders
or that we weren’t really spider fans
or how we would get them to ‘fall in love’
or that there might not be any customers
or that our business would close before it opened
when my mom closed the garage door and made us play outside
and that is the main reason why i am not a spider farmer today
and a teacher instead.

diagnosis.

Standard

how lucky am i

that there is a veterinary hospital

right in my very own classroom

and a doctor from that hospital

ready to ‘doctor me’ and to offer a diagnosis:

“you do not have a heartbeat and you have a very small cavity.”

i am thankful for this

and now that i understand

what is causing my foot to hurt

i know exactly how to make it all better.

keep a good attitude and keep your sense of humor.”
