and therein lies the lesson.

they say
clothes don’t make the man
but
a fashion-forward rotweiller
on a gray, rainy day
strolling among the humans
to raise money
for
type 1 diabetes research
in her ballet-soft tutu
sure shows some
style and class.
—
age and size are only numbers.
it’s the attitude you bring to clothes
that makes the difference.

with
windows open wide
thinned the field
planted beautiful flowers
collected favorite things
painted magic rocks
decorated sticks
sprinkled
treasures and sparkles
opened up a pumpkin patch
made the beds
welcomed
the curious bees
and
friendly butterflies
laid out a table
and invited them in.
the fairies
must have been watching
for they
moved into
their new little village
in the circle
right on our playground
and
we hope they’re here to stay.

if a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder without any such gift from the fairies, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in.

our class went to see
nick cave’s art exhibit
up close and personal
sound suits
colors
swirls
dancing
textures
fun
then made
their own accessories
in his style
and
learned so much
about art having no boundaries
how things can look and sound and feel
art can be found in all kinds of places
and
most of all
that each of them are artists in their own right.

the university of michigan wolverines
rose to victory in
the university of maryland terrapins
football challenge
put forth by fellow blogger/sportswriter, mark b. –
and even
the 8 hour move-up game time
to head off the hurricane
and an away game location
couldn’t help
those turtles from maryland
who took to their shells
as
the wolverines from ann arbor
showed them what a real storm looked like
with a 28-0 win
and mark was a good sport and gracious enough
to honor his side of the losing bet.
a shot of him in the rain
dressed in the gear of his losing team.
onward!

as the cousins
find ways to stretch their line
they hang on tight
to see just how far they can go
and still be connected.
even the one who resists
cannot escape their web.

“all things are connected like the blood that unites us.
we do not weave the web of life, we are merely a strand in it.
whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.”

and…..i’m watching right now from my warm, comfy couch, as michigan leads at the half. looks like i’ll just sit back and wait to see mark’s losing photo in rain gear tomorrow. )
The day has arrived for the third in a series of BloggyVille wagers regarding the success of the sports teams that Beth of I Didn’t Have My Glasses On and I.
Just as a refresher, and not to rub it in at all, I won the season series wager between my Triple A Syracuse Chiefs and her Toledo Mud Hens in International League baseball play during the 2004 season, and Beth paid off with great photos she took attending a game in Toledo (and a care package that came in the mail, too, totally because she’s a great sport). Last fall, I won again when my alma mater Maryland Terps beat her alma mater Michigan Wolverines in football, and she paid off with a boffo post of Maryland alum and San Francisco 49er Vernon Davis singing our alma mater. It was a mighty big save from herself singing it, by…
