chicken or the egg?

Standard

today, mr. roger, our snowplow driver

came back to our room

and brought some of his favorite birds to meet us

these two are chickens named marco polo and maranella

and they are married.

his granddaughter has a chicken for a pet and reads with it

and he really loves birds

even more than snowplowing.

mr. roger even showed us some of maranella’s treasures – her eggs

and we had the chance to gently touch everything and ask all kinds of questions.

it was amazing because he knew all of the answers.

he sure knows a lot about a lot.

“if I hadn’t started painting, i would have raised chickens.”

attention.

Standard

when we set out on our hike

to see what spring animals

were out there

we thought maybe

we’d see a bear

awakening from a long winter’s nap

though we most likely

scared any creature

who happened to be in our oncoming path

or most anywhere in the vicinity

with our marching and laughing and yelling and jumping

and then

we looked closer

and at last

found an animal

passed over by many

who was not afraid of us

just waiting to to be discovered

a single ant.

the math of trees.

Standard

when looking at the trees on the kinder playground

it’s easy to see how tall the little people are

the green does not dare begin until it is

above and safely out of the reach of their tiny hands

even if they are standing on tippy toes

 pulling, climbing, bending, picking, snapping

the trees do the math and live to tell the tale.

“trees and plants always look like the people they live with, somehow.”
