the kinder came
they masked
they played
they conquered.

first day of school – september 2020
today is the first day back at school
i imagine the kinder calmly gliding into nature with me
all possibilities are on the table
could be more like the picture below
most likely will fall somewhere in between.
“today is a most unusual day, because we have never lived it before; we will never live it again; it is the only day we have.”

wonder what the deadline on this project is?

so many things out in the world
just waiting to be discovered
one of my favorite things to do is to stumble upon them
share them with my camera and my words

not searching for unusual subject matter, but making the commonplace unusual.”

“the six pack’- my grandies all kind of sitting still in one place at one time

on national grandparents day
i am reminded of this afternoon
5 years ago in the park
you always were
from the youngest age
each your very own person
i’m so happy to be ‘peaches’ to every one of you.

just because taking 4 minutes to watch this might make you smile all day. (sound up!)
when hanging outside with a couple of my grandies,
we talked as they worked on creating pictures
taken from online designs
very, very carefully selecting each tiny bead to put into place
i thought it would be a good time to tell them about my cat, olive
who loves to pounce on the jigsaw puzzles on my table
when she finds me in the midst of them
i also thought i would do a mini dramatic recreation of how it all happens
as i pretended to be olive, bouncing my hand on the table
i apparently was a little too into my role
when i hit the table
we all froze for a few seconds
after noticing that all of their hard work
had just been destroyed in the course of my acting.
great recovery though
as i apologized
we all laughed and laughed and laughed at what happened
knowing
that while it would take a long time to rebuild their designs
we also also knew
that life can be so instantly funny sometimes.

happened upon
this friendly-looking tree
deep in the woods
so content and jolly
i think it would love to share its jokes.

“i never saw a discontented tree.
they grip the ground as though they liked it,
and though fast rooted, they travel about as far as we do.”

bird hiils park, ann arbor, michigan, usa – summer 2020
(not my breakfast, but how i imagine it to look if i had ordered the daily specials)
––
how fun to discover
that one of my favorite breakfast places
has changed up their menu a bit
(maybe now that the students are back on campus?)
adding 11 ‘breakfast beers’
and a daily special of
cake and ice cream
“celebrate everyday like your birthday!”
what’s not to celebrate?
“i discovered a meal between breakfast and brunch.”
