very little.

Standard

after a fun afternoon

and wonderful evening

spent visiting and playing

grandies are tired and tucked in

when suddenly the tears come

missing mom and dad

and after

a story, Kleenex, hugs, a visit from the cat, and a goodnight call to mom

everyone settles in for the night

including bunny

does it get any better than that?

“very little is needed to make a happy life.”

for the rhino with the broken foot

so that he has a place to lie down

and recover in peace.

it is above all by the imagination

that we achieve perception, and compassion, and hope.”

crisp.

Standard

as our temps take a dip into the zero-ish range,

it is good to remember the importance of connection,

the joy of giving to others, and the comfort of the sun.

“it is the life of the crystal, the architect of the flake,

the fire of the frost, the soul of the sunbeam.

this crisp winter air is full of it.”

~john burroughs, “Winter Sunshine”

rescue glen frey the cat not the rockstar

is beginning to get comfortable.

he still eats like a mafioso

facing the door

 always on his guard

and

we still startle each other

if either of us enters a room too fast

but

he doesn’t run away and hide

as much anymore

and even

hangs around a bit longer each day

scooting off to his safe spot

when he needs to

but

he talks to me loudly

and

 lets me brush him now

and purrs

and tips over

and

even has bedtime habits.

at 10:30 each night

he climbs into his cushiony basket

where his stuffed kitty friend

awaits him

high atop

the window bench with a view of outside.

for a guy who’s had a hard and uncertain life

he seems to be settling in just fine.

if it’s the right chair,

it doesn’t take too long to get comfortable in it.

mg reads the paper

and has stopped noticing

when pieces

are cut out of a page

and

tucked away

waiting to be used

 for my art collage projects.

he just reads around them

without questioning

what was there

and why

it’s no longer there

and

it’s clear

that

we have

a real easy

 comfort level

between us.

 we lie around

on a rainy afternoon

listening to the radio

to hear

one of us

a first-time storyteller on npr

as she shares with the nation

her bittersweet tale

there are 11 people of all ages

4 dogs of all shapes

with all

the food, drinks, games

and

good cheer

we could possibly need

and no timeline or agenda

on this long lazy weekend

all tucked in together

in 1 cozy house

on 1 pretty lake

and all that

equals

1 huge level of comfort.
