why yes, i’m happy to wait here all day while you check my i.d.
i’ll just stand right by this alert and tan in the glow of its light.
take all the time you need. i’ll hang out for a few minutes longer.
thanks so much for sending help.
does anyone else have this message on their screen?
oh?
you i.d. everyone?
great policy.

maurice sendak’s
“where the wild things are”
was initially pitched as
“where the wild horses are”
his editor loved the pitch but
sendak could not draw horses
so the wild things he drew
ended up being
caricatures of his relatives.

as we made our way through the jungle of giant leaves,
only one of us spotted a tiger and we looked out for each other.

my key fob missing its insides and screaming.
me looking for the insides of my key fob and screaming.
—
went to have coffee with my friend
locked up my car
put my key in my pocket
when i returned to the car
all i had left of my electronic key
was the empty screaming shell pictured above
insides were nowhere to be found
used the key/shell in the car door
and the panic button screamed nonstop
with no electronics to turn it off
until my car started
each and every time
a bit dumbfounded
as key fob was still in one piece
in my pocket
found a tiny screw missing in back
somehow it had
unscrewed itself
fallen out
opened itself up
insides popped out
closed itself back up
and was empty
like it never happened
interesting scenario
luckily i have daughters
with my keys all over the place
and my car has stopped screaming
but my old key fob still looks upset.

took a ride on the q line train
in detroit city
on it’s inaugural weekend
so full of happy people
got off at campus martius
a downtown oasis
sat on the beach
created right in the middle of the city
for outdoor summer adventures
enjoyed wonderful cuban jazz
live and in color
plus a little guy who couldn’t resist sitting in with the band
a natural improv artist of the highest order
the energy in the city was contagious.
