is it
a husky?
polar bear?
sea lion?
penguin?
not sure exactly sure what breed this is,
but i’d be happy to rescue him any day.

my eldest grandson
asked me to join a book club
that would include
just the two of us
and
the dtc
(deep thought club)
as well.
i’m very flattered .
though i’m behind in my reading
and
was very proud of myself
when i finally finished my book
and we had a good discussion about it.
then he told me there are 3 more in the series
and
i have my work cut out to keep up with him.
we’ve had many deep thought conversations
and i’ve tried to have some answers
but he usually has the best ideas
and
he’s 8 years old.
i’m very flattered that these are such exclusive clubs
and i was asked to be a member.
i’ll do my best.
the answer i found is you stay away from
the people who make fun of you,
and you join these ad hoc groups who understand
your craziness.

i decided it was time to find a cat
who needed to be part of a family.
i searched all over
to find
a cat who decided it was time to find a family
who needed a cat to be part of it.
we found each other
in a small cat rescue home
with a few cats and a few dedicated women
who worked tirelessly
to find the cats and the families
their perfect matches.
that is how i met glen.
his story was sad.
he was found abandoned at an elementary school.
a child took him home
his family took him to a shelter
where he was put in a room
with feral cats
and
ganged up on
had part of his ear bitten off.
then put in a small cage for his safety.
a kindly vet noticed and asked the rescuers
to come and get him
for
he’s a big boy
who’s actually
a domesticated cat
who didn’t know what to do
and had no home.
they named him ‘glen’
after glen frye of the eagles
who died on the day
he was found
and given a second chance on life.
he’s now glen frye the cat not the rocker
and
he moved in yesterday.
glen’s a bit shy and scared
but he’s coming around
and loves to be petted
and purrs and tips over
if you let him come to you
and
and he feels safest up high.
but he came down the steps today
all the way to the bottom
and he’s slowly
learning to trust again.
the grandies came over to meet glen
my daughter made him a special basket and cushion
we’re all so happy to have him.
and he seems to really enjoy music.
a carload and more of grandies,
a sweet niece, baron the dog, and a family of ducklings
inventing the day as they go.

“some of the secret joys of living
are not found by rushing from point A to point B,
but by inventing some imaginary letters along the way. “
~douglas pagels: These Are the Gifts I’d Like to Give to You
watched an episode
of this iconic show
in honor of my late father’s birthday.
he told me a secret
about this agency
when i was young.
one day
he showed me his special
man from u.n.c.l.e. card.
told me not to tell anyone.
i was always fascinated by the world of spies.
made perfect sense to me
i thought advertising was his cover
why he traveled so much.
told everyone i knew immediately
told them not to tell anyone.
they told everyone they knew immediately
with the same request.
when i got married
i asked him about it.
he told me
that he thought
i had figured it out long ago.
we laughed for a long time.
he had
the most incredible imagination
and
he always made me laugh.
i still laugh
even when i think about him now.
sleepover party with the grandies
one bed
all tangled up and diagonal
elbows
knees
arms
splayed
covers on
covers off
cuddlies hugged
socks off
socks on
favorite blankets
one falls out
stays asleep
gets scooped back up
put in the middle
folded into the mix
morning comes
and
we are off!

my friend/great mother of 5 active young children
is at it again –
the following quote was her post
yesterday on Facebook
and i think she’s great:
“Wishing I had a fairy godmother…
Or maybe just a cleaning lady (or man).
Kids are gross.
Nobody warns how gross they can be.
Do you know what words I uttered today? –
” Who peed in the toothbrush rinse cup”?
Honestly …. The struggle is real.”

her friend replied –
“i like that, but remember that time your twins peed in the cat litter?”
